Erdahl-Cloyd Dining Terrace
Location: Raleigh, NC
North Carolina State University engaged JDavis to design and facilitate a renovation plan for the existing Erdahl Cloyd dining terrace located adjacent to the “Brickyard” portion of the campus. Design objectives included solving circulation issues, creating a variety of dining spaces, preserving views to the “Brickyard”, improving site drainage, creating a “sense of space,” adding a landscape element and reworking ADA access.
JDavis’ scope of services included site analysis, site design, construction drawings and construction administration. The final design incorporates a series of seat walls, seat “steps” and large planter pots to define the dining terrace area as a destination and to direct pedestrian traffic around it which also aides in maintaining open views and a connection to the “Brickyard”. A variety of seating options is available that include various table sizes and a dining “bar” to offer group, couple, individual and ADA accessible dining opportunities. Shade trees, low evergreen shrubs and umbrellas complete a drought tolerant, ease of maintenance landscape element as well as enhancing seasonal use of the dining terrace.
